Day 2
Well, we didn't have much luck with getting the children to sleep last night, it took q....u.....i.....t......e....... a long time AND then the evening lock up alarm beeps and we were back to square one! You'd think with such a late night, we'd have sleeping children this morning but alas, we were woken up around 5:45! They are bright eyed and bushy tailed and ready for the day.

Breakfast this morning was a cooked breakfast and cereal and yogurt. I was told, "this is excellent" which is good news as I think it's our breakfast venue for the week.
The sun is shining brightly and the location is just gorgeous. We've really been enjoying walking through the woodland to the different activities and chatting amongst ourselves.
Today we've started together at the climbing walls, one vertical and one on a slight incline. The children are working so well together, cheering each other on, offering advice and erupting in applause when they make it to the top.
It really was very high!!! Even Ben and David had a race to the top.
What I've learned today, is that it is possible to be scared of a butterfly! Let's just say, there's an abundance of wildlife of the minibeast kind and some of our less intrepid explorers erupt in squeals at random points in the day.
After another lunch of choose-your-own-filling rolls, in the field in the sunshine, we set off further into the woodlands for some fire building. We've also delved into our copious snack supplies and had a post-lunch sugar infusion.
We learned about all the different methods you can use for fire building. It was even sunny enough for the old magnifying glass and sunshine trick!! It was more smoke than fire but impressive nonetheless.
Then children searched for "breakfast", "lunch" and "dinner" sticks (basically, small twigs, medium and larger sticks).
We built the foundations for a fire and then with lots of patience and some adult help, we had 4 very smoky mini fires.
After another quick afternoon snack (we're always hungry on residential), years 5&6 split ways. Year 5 battling it out at laser tage and year 6 moving onto the zipline.
Unfortunately, I can't upload videos but please imagine in your head piercing screams, Miss Lovell being the loudest!
The weather today has been beautiful and the surroundings are lovely, children are enjoying the great outdoors. There's plenty of fernery around and I've had a conversation on the scientific accuracy of Jurassic World compared with Prehistoric Planet 🦖🦕🌿.
Dinner tonight was in the Woodland Kitchen which was the same place as our breakfast. We had the choice of penne with Bolognese, Alfredo, ratatouille or tomato chicken sauces and freshly made garlic bread. We were ravenous and plates were scraped. We followed this up with chocolate brownies. Yum 😋
We're finishing the evening with wacky races. It's been a very busy day and the grown-ups are ready for bed 😴😴😴😴
Over and out from team Cuffley 💙
